Progress of Oman-UAE Railway Continues – Project Receives Support from Both Nations

A recent meeting in Muscat of the Oman and Etihad Rail Company, Board of Directors revealed that the joint railway network linking the UAE National Rail Network and Sohar Port was progressing well; this was highlighted on the ArabianBusiness.com news website on 4th April 2023 which also added the board had praised the support and leadership for this initiative from both respective nations. During the meeting, the company’s developments and achievements were reviewed along with studies and research conducted recently. Members of the board additionally discussed utilising the latest technologies and systems and meeting current requirements; they were also given updates on the progress so far and the results of system studies and engineering design reviews.

Once completed, this rail network will span around 303 km and feature passenger trains that will be able to reach speeds of 200 km per hour, thereby reducing travel time; the journey from Abu Dhabi to Sohar is expected to take around 100 minutes, while the trip between Al Ain and Sohar will be around 47 minutes. This will no doubt help boost tourism in the region too. After visitors from the UAE easily reach Sohar in Oman, they can also head to other popular destinations such as the capital where they can stay at properties like Avani Muscat Hotel & Suites. Those based at such a centrally located hotel in Muscat can enjoy the best the country has to offer be it for business or leisure.
