Qatar Airways Begins Fifth Daily Flight to Colombo

Positive Signs of Getting Back on Track

On 24 February 2022, Qatar Airways began its fifth daily flight to Sri Lanka’s commercial capital, Colombo; this was a significant moment as it saw the airline establish levels of service with the island that were previously seen before the outbreak of the pandemic. This also highlighted the demand for travel from and to Sri Lanka as well as the airline’s role in helping global tourism and travel in the region recover.

Also, of note was that Qatar Airways is the only airline to have uninterrupted services continuously between the Hamad International Airport in Doha and Colombo’s, Bandaranaike International Airport. This bodes well for tourism in Sri Lanka with more travellers expected to visit this year. The island’s coastline continues to be a popular draw which can be enjoyed on stays at a Negombo beach hotel; such properties include the ‘Safe & Secure’ certified Heritance Negombo that’s set amidst one of the widest beach-fronts in the country and has stringent health and sanitisation protocols in place too.
