Resorts in Maldives Commence Operations – A Boost for the Tourism Industry

Following the challenges faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism industry in the Maldives received a boost last month as select resorts were granted permission to operate; this coincided with the reopening of the country’s international borders. On the 15th of July 2020, certain properties including the likes of Grand Park Kodhipparu, Maldives were allowed to open. Subsequently, other private island resorts have systematically begun to resume operations which once again is giving travellers a chance to stay at Maldives villas and enjoy a tropical getaway.

In order for resorts to open, they have to meet government guidelines and health standards which have been issued by the Health Protection Agency. Each property also has its own set of procedures be it regarding hygiene or social distancing and will have a certified doctor / medic or a dedicated COVID-19 response team on call.
