Russia Remains a Dominant Source of Tourists for the Maldives: Despite Conflicts

The Maldives has accomplished a remarkable achievement by achieving 65% of its annual target of 1.8 million tourist arrivals. Recent statistics from the tourism ministry reveal that 1.1 million tourists arrived by Wednesday. The nation now aims to welcome approximately 635,000 more tourists to achieve its ambitious goal. The Maldives is currently witnessing an average daily arrival of 5,631 tourists, which could lead to around 800,000 more arrivals in the remaining four and a half months of the year. This projection might result in 1.9 to 2 million tourist arrivals by year-end, surpassing the original target by 165,000 visitors.

The 1.1 million arrivals already signify an impressive growth of 13.8% compared to the same period last year, with tourists spending an average of 7.7 days, indicating considerable improvement. Russia, despite the Russia-Ukraine conflict, remains a dominant source of tourists, with India, China, the UK, and Germany following closely. Italy also contributes significantly to the influx of visitors. Maldives resorts have been reaping the benefits of the tourist surge as visitors enjoy stays at properties such as Kandolhu Maldives during this period of heavy incomings.
