In 2023, Samui Airport in Thailand, located in the Koh Samui district of the Surat Thani province, experienced a remarkable surge in tourist arrivals, welcoming 2.2 million holidaymakers on the East Coast island. This marked a substantial 66.65% increase compared to the previous year. In December alone, the airport recorded 207,096 passengers, reflecting a 15.25% rise from the same period in 2022, along with 2,497 flights. To address the surge in visitors, the airport is undergoing upgrades, introducing new technologies such as an automatic check-in system and dynamic public relations signs. Infrastructure improvements include the installation of an additional X-ray scan at the main gate, a new conveyor belt for handling large luggage, and a revamped landscape for enhanced passenger comfort.
These changes aim to transform the airport into a green and relaxing space, aligning with the director’s vision, Jirawat Wutthiwatworakun. Samui Airport’s efforts to enhance infrastructure and passenger experience have contributed to the continued popularity of the Surat Thani province as a favoured destination for tourists, many who choose to stay in a Samui resort such as the Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort.
