The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority launched a new campaign to increase tourist arrivals in the country by investing in a variety of tourism amenities and facilities in the cultural hotspot of Sigiriya. The UNESCO World Heritage Site and its namesake city are going through a facelift to attract the travelling masses to its intriguing confines with better services and amenities for tourists. Hoping to meet the demands of modern tourists, the initiative includes a multi-faceted approach to not only improving hotels in Sigiriya or the quality of the establishments but also more basic facilities the likes of transportation and security as well. At present, there are many accommodation options in the area including such names as Hotel Sigiriya. The program includes the introduction of a tourist police sector, trained tour operators/guides and even express buses to transfer travellers from one cultural hub to another. The issuing of licenses for tourist establishments in the area and the addition of novel tourist dining hotspots is also designed to make Sigiriya a more compelling venue for tourists.
