Five Southern African countries—Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe—are expanding a Schengen-style univisa to simplify cross-border travel and boost tourism in the region. This initiative is expected to make Southern Africa more accessible to international visitors, allowing travellers to explore multiple countries with a single visa. By streamlining travel, the univisa aims to increase tourist arrivals, extend stays, and contribute to regional conservation initiatives.
The univisa’s expansion is set to drive economic growth by attracting more tourists and enhancing their experiences across the region’s national parks, such as Chobe, Hwange, Etosha, and Victoria Falls. Easier access to these destinations is expected to boost spending on accommodation, transportation, and other services, benefiting local economies and such businesses as hotels in Gaborone of the likes of the Avani Gaborone Resort & Casino.
