The 19th tallest tower in the world, the Nelum Pokuna or Lotus Tower is scheduled to be opened this year. Construction for the project began in 2012 where the foundation stone was laid on the 20th of January 2012. The superstructure is located in Colombo overlooking many construction sites like that of TRI-ZEN which is a complex of upcoming apartments in Sri Lanka.
The 1st and 2nd floors of this giant building have been set aside for 50 radio broadcasters, 20 television broadcasters and 20 telecommunication services. According to the administration manager of the project, Chanaka Abeykoon, there are 2 banquet/conference halls ready to accommodate 450 guests and a special view area offering a panoramic view of the magnificent city of Colombo and the port city that is currently under construction. The tower is expected to be a massive tourist attraction as well.
