Sri Lanka Celebrates World Tourism Day 2019

Events in Colombo and Arugam Bay

World Tourism Day 2019 was celebrated globally on 27th September, and Sri Lanka was no exception as the island nation hosted a series of events spanning two days. The first day saw a special ceremony being held in Colombo at the Independence Arcade along with a job fair and entertainment programme which went on till the next day as well.

Key events on 28th September included the holding of the International Tourism Research Conference (ITRC) and the Tourism Leaders’ Summit (TLS) organised by the University of Colombo’s, Tourism Study Programme (Department of Economics). An international surfing contest was also held in Arugam Bay; surfing in this east coast destination is one of the best things to do in Sri Lanka and it continues to draw surfers on east coast tours organised by Walkers Tours and other local travel specialists.
