Sri Lanka Continues to Record Rise in Tourists – A Significant Increase from Last Year

Sri Lanka has seen a remarkable increase in international arrivals this year which bodes well for the local tourism industry. February 2024 marked a post-pandemic high of 218,350 visitors, pushing the cumulative figure for the year to a staggering 426,603. This is a significant improvement compared to February 2023, which saw only 107,639 arrivals. Multiple factors are credited for this positive trend including improved flight connectivity and strategic promotional efforts which have made the country more accessible and enticing for tourists.

The tourism boom is translating into significant economic benefits as well; the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) estimated that the sector generated over $710 million in earnings during the first two months of this year alone. Amongst the country’s many allures are the beaches of the south coast where travellers can also enjoy a Sri Lanka culture tour at destinations such as Tangalle. Properties here beside the beach like Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort remain a popular choice for accommodation as more and more tourists arrive looking to enjoy the best of this enchanting island.
