An idyllic island nation in South Asia, Sri Lanka has reaffirmed its status as one of the world’s most popular holiday destinations by recording a growing number of visitors this year. In January 2025, it welcomed a record-breaking 252,761 travellers, which was a significant 21.4% increase when compared to the same month in 2024. More significantly, however, was that this figure was also 6% higher than the January arrivals in 2018, which is considered a benchmark year for tourism in Sri Lanka.

The good news is that this positive momentum has continued. For example, by 13th February 2025, the country had registered 115,043 tourists, which was 16.8% more than the same period last year. This bodes well for this nation, which has set its sights on achieving three million international arrivals by the end of the year.

Not surprisingly, the island’s coastal allures remain a popular draw for travellers, including the east coast, where hotels in Passikudah offer the ideal base for fun in the sun, sand and surf. Properties beside the shoreline, such as Amethyst Resort Passikudah, will no doubt keep drawing visitors looking to enjoy family getaways, romantic retreats and adventure-filled holidays in Sri Lanka.
