Sri Lanka Lifts UK Travel Restrictions – Guidelines for Tourists Updated Too

Sri Lanka removed its previously imposed travel restrictions on those arriving from the UK, initially put in place due to the new variant of COVID-19 found there. It was lifted on 17th February 2021 as stated on a media release by the nation’s Foreign Ministry. This bodes well for the tourism industry as travellers from the UK will now be able to plan holidays to Sri Lanka once more.

The guidelines introduced by the country for all arriving tourists have been updated too. Currently, foreign travellers must stay at a “Safe and Secure Level 1” hotel such as Turyaa Kalutara for 14 days under a secure bio bubble; these properties including such Kalutara beach hotels can be found at key destinations in the island. With the updated guidelines as of 18th March 2021, tourists who have completed the COVID-19 vaccination more than two weeks before arrival, need to stay within the bio bubble for only seven days.
