Sri Lanka looking forward to mindblowing tourism targets – An optimistic future!

Sri Lanka is on track to meet its tourism target of 105,000 arrivals for January, having already recorded 47,358 tourist arrivals as of January 15. Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Chairman Priyantha Fernando stated that the country was hopeful of achieving an end-of-year revenue target of $2.8 billion from an expected 1.55 million arrivals. Despite the country’s currency crisis, political unrest, and COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism sector had seen a significant increase in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Tourism Minister Harin Fernando declared that tourism could boost Sri Lanka’s economy irrespective of the IMF bailout. The SLTDA chairman expressed cautious optimism that the 105,000 targets for January would most likely be met and that the country would generate $2.8 billion in revenue by the end of 2022 from the anticipated 1.55 tourists.
