Sri Lanka Looks beyond Pandemic to Carve out a New Tourism Future – A futuristic approach

Although Sri Lanka attempted to reopen its borders to international tourists several instances before, none of them was successful until January 2021 due to different waves of COVID- 19 that came up. With this initiative, hotels including every Hikkaduwa resort the likes of Hikka Tranz by Cinnamon, travel agents, and other tourism-related business owners expect that they will have better days coming up.

Domestic travel is happening within the country, and this has brought slight relief to those who operated their businesses in this industry. Tourism is the third-largest foreign exchange generator in Sri Lanka following textiles (garments) and workers remittances. However, tourism specialists believe that 2021 will be a recovery year for the industry, and 2022 will be much better with all the improvements.
