In an online article published at the end of 2019, American newspaper publication, USA Today, named Sri Lanka as one of the top destinations for travellers to head to during the winter season. The article titled “20 warm-weather destinations to visit this winter if you just can’t take the cold anymore”, referred to this tropical island as an “overlooked gem” highlighting the pristine wilderness, rich history and flavour-filled cuisine in Sri Lanka. Wildlife tours and cultural excursions continue to be a popular draw for tourists who can visit key sites with travel specialists the likes of SoulTrek Sri Lanka.
The article also referred to top experiences on offer such as making the ascent to the summit of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and biking amidst tea plantations. Buenos Aires (Argentina), Hanoi (Vietnam), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Ko Samui (Thailand), Lima (Peru) and Ambergris Caye (Belize) were among the other top winter destinations featured in the article.
