Sri Lanka Plans to Launch Global Tourism Promotion – Aims to Target Key Markets

To attract more tourists to the country, Sri Lanka is planning to launch a global tourism promotion programme in the second quarter of 2022. This was highlighted on 23rd February 2022 on the ColomboPage online news website; it went on to reveal that the Minister of Finance, Basil Rajapaksa, had agreed to provide the needed sum of 56 million USD for this initiative. This promotion programme is expected to target key tourist markets including China, the United Kingdom, India, Russia, Germany, the Middle East and Australia.

Sri Lanka has always been a popular tourist destination and such promotions will help remind travellers of its many highlights including cultural attractions like the iconic rock fortress, Sigiriya; hotels near this UNESCO World Heritage Site that are ‘Safe & Secure’ certified such as Aliya Resort & Spa, make an ideal base for sightseeing, while offering accommodation with enhanced sanitisation and hygiene protocols in place.
