Sri Lanka Records Over 100,00 Tourists in January – Positive Signs for Tourism in 2023

Giving the country’s tourism industry an added boost, Sri Lanka recorded approximately 102,545 arrivals in January 2023 which bodes well for the rest of the year. These statistics were put out by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and showed an increase of 24.5% compared to the same period last year. The top three source markets for January 2023 were Russia, India and the UK respectively, while plenty more travellers from other countries are expected in the months to come.

Such positive signs are encouraging for this South Asian, island nation that has been getting its tourism industry back on track since the pandemic. The SLTDA is expecting around 1.55 million arrivals in 2023, generating approximately 2.8 billion dollars in revenue, which will be pivotal to boosting the local economy. This destination continues to be a popular choice among global travellers looking for diverse experiences not only at a beachside resort on the south coast but a hill country hotel in Kandy, Sri Lanka; properties here amidst the mountains such as Hunas Falls provide safe accommodation and a chance to enjoy the stunning natural beauty and thrilling outdoor adventures too.
