Sri Lanka reopens its oldest airport after 54 Years

easing travel further

The Ratmalana Airport was the country’s very first airport, however, for years it has been operating only as a domestic airport. This year, it was decided the airport can now take international flights once again. The first carrier to land here was the Maldivian airlines, this was the first international flight to land here in five decades!

The Maldivian carrier will be taking off from Ratmalana Airport three times a week. The frequency of flights will gradually be increased to five times a week. Foreign travellers will soon be able to gain easier access to resorts like Heritance Ayurveda which is an Ayurveda hotel in Sri Lanka from this airport. The 9000 or so Maldivians living within the proximity of the airport will now find it easier to travel as well.
