Sri Lanka recently made a lasting impression in Madrid, Spain at the 37th International Tourism Trade Fair. The event took place between the 18th-22nd January 2017, bringing in a staggering sum of 9,672 companies, institutions and bodies directly involved in the travel and tourism industries, ranging from 165 different countries and regions. However, the significance to Sri Lanka is that the island nation took part in the fair this year for the first time in over 10 years. In fact, despite their absence over previous years, the Sri Lankan pavilion managed to attract a lot of attention in Madrid. The island is on a keen mission to advance their tourism sector, and there are so many new entrants in the hospitality industry such as the Anantara Kalutara Resort and similar others. Tourists now have access to many a luxury hotel in Sri Lanka when they choose it as a holiday destination.
