Sri Lanka Sees an Increase in Tourists – Country to Target Key Indian Market

Despite facing several economic challenges, Sri Lanka continues its resilience in the tourism industry and has seen a small increase in tourist arrivals. This was reported on 19th July 2022 on the Daily FT which highlighted that the country had recorded more than 25,000 tourists from 1st to 17th July; this was a slight improvement when compared with the first three weeks of June and May this year and it will be hoped that this upward trend will continue.

Sri Lanka is also looking to draw more tourists from India, a key source market. Initiatives include a marketing campaign in Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore as well as the setting up of a promotion office in Gujarat for the first time. Travelers from India and other parts of the world have much to look forward to on a visit to the island nation including cultural discoveries at attractions like Sigiriya; resorts here such as the “Safe & Secure” certified Hotel Sigiriya provide an ideal base from which to visit this iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site and other key places of interest in the Cultural Triangle.
