Sri Lanka Sees an Increase in Tourists – Promising Signs for 2022

As seen by statistics put out last month by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), the country saw an increase in tourist arrivals especially in December 2021; during that month, the island welcomed 89,506 international visitors which was the highest number over 12 months. India was the top market for both December and the whole of last year with 56,268 tourists visiting Sri Lanka in 2021 from its neighbouring nation; second and third place went to Russia (16,894) and the United Kingdom (16,646) respectively.

This popular destination in South Asia saw a marked increase in arrivals after it offered fully vaccinated travellers quarantine-free holidays from August 2021 onwards. Tourists can also look forward to safe accommodation and enjoy the island’s famed south coast once more on a stay at a Kalutara resort; this includes ‘Safe and Secure’ certified properties like Avani Kalutara Resort which follow stringent health and hygiene protocols. It will be hoped that the positive trend seen in 2021 will continue with more tourists arriving this year.
