Sri Lanka’s tourism sector sets its sights on welcoming 2.3 million tourists and generating over USD 4 billion in revenue in 2024, announced Tourism Minister Harin Fernando. Following the conclusion of the 2024 event of the ITB Berlin Convention, the minister unveiled Sri Lanka Tourism’s global destination brand campaign, anchored by the tagline: ‘You’ll come back for more.’ This campaign aims to showcase the unique allure of Sri Lanka, emphasizing its ability to foster deep bonds with visitors, as evidenced by a significant number of repeat travellers. Additionally, Sri Lanka has set a long-term goal to attract 5 million arrivals and generate USD 21.6 billion in revenue by 2030, accompanied by a comprehensive strategy focusing on global marketing, product development, and year-round appeal; the island is famous for beautiful beaches and hotels in Passikudah, Trinco as well as hill stations like Kandy and Badulla. Visitors can find many enchanting places of accommodation such as the Amethyst Resort on their visit.
The island nation has witnessed remarkable growth in tourist arrivals in the early months of 2024, with February recording over 218,000 arrivals, marking the third consecutive month of surpassing 200,000 arrivals. This surge represents the highest number of tourist arrivals since January 2020, signalling a promising rebound for Sri Lanka’s tourism industry after the pandemic-induced downturn.
