Sri Lanka Soars in Asia’s Travel Rankings – Secures Second Spot

Sri Lanka’s tourism sector has recently received a welcome boost, with The Times of India placing the island nation as the second most popular travel destination in Asia. This recognition by a leading publication highlights Sri Lanka’s diverse appeal, encompassing historical and cultural sites, natural landscapes, and popular wildlife experiences.

The country’s coastal destinations, in particular, have welcomed a surge of tourists along the Southern coast, with formerly under-the-radar towns gaining significant popularity. Major international chains have begun to establish resorts in lesser-known beach towns, with a resulting expected increase in their popularity, based on past projects. The coastal hub of Tangalle only saw a boost in popularity after the introduction of more Tangalle hotels and holiday resorts, including Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, and properties by other hotel conglomerates.

The ranking arrives at an opportune moment as Sri Lanka rebounds from the global travel slowdown, post-pandemic and the following economic crisis. This surge in popularity positions Sri Lanka as a prime choice for discerning travellers seeking a vacation in the south of Asia.
