Sri Lanka to launch new weekend long-distance train and bus service – Comfortable travel for tourists

With the increasing demand for public transport brought about by the fuel crisis, Sri Lanka seeks to make travelling for overseas visitors a little more comfortable. A special plan has been set in place to introduce weekend trains and buses for tourists to travel to popular destinations.

Minister Bandula Gunawardena informed the media that the ‘Night Rider Train’ to Jaffna leaves Colombo on Friday night and arrives back in Colombo from Jaffna carrying a crowd greater than its capacity. With trains to other popular destinations like Badulla also fully booked, introducing new shuttles is the best option. These extra trains will be running to destinations like Kandy as weekend holidays at a Kandy hotel in Sri Lanka the likes of Earl’s Regency Kandy are quite the trend.
