Sri Lanka Tourism Host Road Shows in Southern India – Targeting a Key Source Market

Earlier this year, Sri Lanka Tourism hosted several road shows in Southern India as it looked to attract more travellers from there. This included an event in Chennai on 24th April which was attended by cricketing great Sanath Jayasuriya who is the Sri Lanka Tourism Brand Ambassador and Harin Fernando, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Tourism. Also in attendance were travel agencies from India and Sri Lanka along with those representing SriLankan Airlines and other key guests. Following this, similar tourism road shows were held in Cochin (26th April) and Bangalore (28th April).

Such destination promotion initiatives reiterated the importance of India as a top tourism source market for Sri Lanka; this has been the case both before and after the pandemic. From 1st January to 25th June 2023, the island nation welcomed 604,386 tourists of which, India was the number one source market; added to this was that in June this year, Cordelia Cruises launched cruise liners from Chennai to Sri Lanka as well. This all bodes well as the country looks to draw more travellers not just from India but around the world. Tourists have much to look forward to from enjoying things to do in Sigiriya during stays at properties such as Aliya Resort & Spa to coastal getaways in Pasikuda and mountainside retreats in Kandy.
