Steady growth, expanding source markets, and rising global confidence in the island destination
Sri Lanka’s tourism sector recorded continued momentum in June, with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) reporting 27,043 international arrivals so far during the month.
India remained the leading source market, contributing 11,216 visitors or 42 percent, followed by travellers from the United Kingdom, Australia, China, and Bangladesh, reflecting broad regional interest. Cumulative figures also indicate a strong recovery, with total arrivals for 2026 reaching 1,049,065, supported by key markets such as India, the UK, and Russia.
Travellers are increasingly combining coastal escapes with cultural experiences, including stays at properties such as Kandy Myst by Cinnamon and trips to many places to visit in Kandy and other attractions. Overall tourism performance in June 2025 also showed encouraging numbers, with 138,241 visitors recorded during the period, underscoring sustained interest in Sri Lanka as a travel destination. The trend signals a steady outlook for the island’s tourism sector as it moves into the coming months ahead.
