Sri Lanka Tourism to pump Rs 800 mn for promotions – increased marketing to increase tourism

A promotional campaign initiated by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) for 2016 and 2017 will see the allocation of over Rs. 800 million, to boost the country’s image and attractions overseas. The SLTPB is inviting tenders from local and international agencies, and have assured full transparency during the selection process. According to recent statements by the bureau, they are keen to promote the North and Eastern provinces which are nearby to several famed tourist attractions such as the Sigirya Rock fortress, along with many luxurious Hotels in Sigiriya, like the Hotel Sigiriya. With this in mind, the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), “Tourism: Passport to Peace” conference was staged in July, at the eastern resort town of Passikudah. This is the first time an event of this scale has been held in the eastern province and the SLTPB hopes this encourages a revival in tourism in the area.
