Sri Lanka Tourism Recorded Strong Gains as Visitor Numbers Surpassed Expectations
Rising arrivals signalled renewed confidence in Sri Lanka’s travel industry
Sri Lanka’s tourism industry recorded a stronger-than-expected performance in 2025, with international arrivals surpassing 2.2 million, according to figures released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. By mid-December, more than 2.2 million visitors had entered the country, marking a clear turnaround despite weather-related disruptions earlier in the year.
Officials noted that steady travel demand during the latter months helped counter setbacks caused by flooding in certain regions. Visitors continued to be drawn to the island’s beaches, heritage sites, wildlife reserves, and wellness offerings, reinforcing Sri Lanka’s position as a diverse destination.
Major events and overseas marketing campaigns also played a role in maintaining momentum, while the hospitality sector — including established names such as Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts — supported the recovery alongside a broad range of Sri Lanka hotels.

Tourism growth contributed to employment, small businesses, and regional economies, underscoring the sector’s importance to national development.
