Sri Lanka Tourism Revenue 2026 – Updated Official Figures Following Major Reassessment
Sri Lanka has reworked how it calculates tourism earnings, reshaping official revenue figures dating back to January 2026. The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) introduced the change, while the Central Bank outlined the revised methodology in a recent economic indicators report. The new approach considers visitor arrivals by source country, average daily spending, and length of stay to provide a more detailed overview of spending across different markets. Properties such as Sri Sharavi Beach Villas & Spa, as well as other Mirissa beach hotels, operate within a coastal tourism economy influenced by these more detailed assessments of visitor spending.
The revisions have improved previously reported 2026 monthly figures. January revenue now stands at US$ 413.8 million, compared to US$ 378 million, while February rose to US$ 381.4 million from US$ 352 million. March and April were also revised upward, despite earlier declines linked to regional geopolitical tensions. However, the authorities have not released the average daily expenditure and stay-duration data, limiting independent verification of the revised figures.
