Sri Lanka Tourism to Prosper in 2018 – Plans and Targets for the Tourism Industry

The tourism industry is one of the main sources of income for Sri Lanka, the sector is ever growing, the year 2017 recorded the highest tourist arrivals in the country with over 2 million arrivals. It is clearly shown in recent stats that this is a growth of 3.2% compared to the previous year. This year, the Minister of Tourism, John Amarathunga states that he is confident that Sri Lanka will be able to achieve over 2.5 million arrivals this year.

With a growing number of luxury resorts in Sri Lanka, for instance, the likes of The Blue Water Hotel and Spa have experienced increasing rates of bookings since last year. This year, leading markets such as China and India are targeted. The Minister stated that there are a number of events planned out, some of them being international stage shows with globally recognized artists which will bring in more tourist.
