Sri Lanka Updates Entry Guidelines – Vaccinated Tourists Given More Freedom

Sri Lanka has updated its entry guidelines giving those who have received the COVID-19 vaccination, more flexibility. When the country initially reopened in January 2021, tourists were required to stay in a secure bio-bubble at designated Safe and Secure Level 1 hotels including the likes of Heritance Ahungalla; tourists who stayed at such a hotel Ahungalla has to offer were able to move freely within the property and visit certain attractions at designated times while also undergoing periodic COVID-19 tests.

According to the new quarantine measures for foreign travellers issued on 18th March 2021, special mention was made to those arriving after two weeks of completing the recommended doses of COVID-19 vaccination. Such travellers must still stay at designated hotels but only for seven days; if the COVID-19 test taken on the last day is negative, they have the freedom to leave the hotel and make their own travel plans. It will be hoped that this will encourage more tourists to visit as the global rollout of vaccinations continue.
