Sri Lanka Welcomes Over One Million Visitors in Strong Start to 2026
Tourism momentum continues to build as Sri Lanka attracts growing international interest
Sri Lanka’s tourism sector has reached a significant milestone, welcoming more than one million international visitors during the first five months of 2026. According to figures released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), the country recorded 1,022,022 arrivals between January and May, highlighting sustained growth in the industry.
May alone contributed 145,745 visitors, reflecting continued enthusiasm among travellers choosing Sri Lanka for leisure, culture, and nature-based experiences. India remained the largest contributor of tourists, while the United Kingdom, China, Germany, and Australia also ranked among the leading source markets.

The latest performance underscores the sector’s growing contribution to economic activity and foreign exchange earnings. As visitor numbers continue to climb, businesses across the travel and hospitality landscape, including attractions, tour operators, and accommodation providers such as Cinnamon Wild Yala, may benefit from increased demand. The positive trend is also encouraging for the wider hospitality industry, including Yala hotels, as Sri Lanka strengthens its position on the global tourism map.
