As the COVID-19 restrictions began to ease, offering convenient access to Sri Lanka for tourists, fluctuations in the tourism industry and arrivals were evident in the statistics released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. While Sri Lanka is home to mesmerising beaches beside Galle, Negombo or Passikudah hotels, the arrival of tourists to hotels like Amethyst Resort Passikudah from Russia has dropped from 8.4%.
According to the Asian edition of Bloomberg, by March, tourist arrivals from Asia Pacific countries to Sri Lanka rose to 32%, which is a 19.5% growth from the arrival records of February 2022. While arrivals from European countries have dropped to 58.1%, Indian tourist visits to the country have reached 21.8% from their previous number of 13.2%. Therefore, the Asia Pacific arrivals to Sri Lanka have risen above the European market, in comparison to the numbers from January of the previous year.
