Sri Lankan Tourism plans big events towards the year end to boost tourism

As the year draws to a close, Sri Lanka is hosting several events as part of its push to draw more tourists during the festive season. Such initiatives were already proposed several months ago by the country’s minister for Tourism & Lands, Harin Fernando, who said large events will be taking place in Colombo and other destinations in December that will attract international visitors. Apart from Colombo, tourists can also look to enjoy the festive cheer in the island’s hill country during a stay at a hotel in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Properties the likes of Hunas Falls provide the ideal base from which to experience Christmas and the New Year amidst cool climes.

In a bid to further encourage visitors, the government is also planning to introduce a health insurance scheme free of charge for international travellers; this will cover 30-day free hospitalisation in the event a tourist falls sick. With all these initiatives in place and the recent increase in arrivals, it will be hoped that 2023 will mark a robust revival of the tourism sector.
