Sri Lankan Tourism team begins its roadshow in Chennai – Encouraging more Indian tourists to Lanka

During a roadshow in the city, Sri Lanka’s Minister for Tourism, Harin Fernando, expressed the country’s desire for tourists to not only visit but also fall in love with Sri Lanka, encouraging them to return. He highlighted the increase in tourist arrivals, with 8,000 arrivals per day from January to March 2023, the highest since 2018.

The Sri Lankan government is focused on making travel easier for Indians, with the lowest visa fee for Indian tourists. Minister Harin Fernando emphasized the cultural connections between Sri Lanka and India, including the shared Tamil language and a well-established Ramayana circuit. Regarding the proposed ferry service between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, the tentative date for its launch was set for May 2, although the details are still being finalized. Hotels in Ahungalla the likes of Heritance Ahungalla and other resorts in various parts of the country are expecting to see an increased number of Indian travellers in the coming months.
