Sri Lanka’s Tourism Industry Begins to Recover – Promising Signs Ahead
Sri Lankan Tourism which suffered a huge blow following the devastating Easter day terrorist attacks this April is showing signs of recovery. This fact was reiterated by the Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs, John Amaratunga, who was speaking at the recent ‘Sancharaka Udawa’; held from 21st to 22nd June 2019, this exhibition is a key annual event for stakeholders in the tourism, hospitality and travel industries.
While tourist arrivals took a sharp decline following the attacks, the numbers are beginning to pick up. Foreign travellers continue to enjoy a wide range of accommodation options be it a stay at a Kandy bungalow or a Bentota hotel including properties such as Avani Bentota Resort. With the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau continuing promotional activities and countries downgrading their initial travel advisory warnings for travel to Sri Lanka, it is hoped the industry with continue to recover.
