Sri Lanka’s Tourism Industry Getting Back on Track – A Positive Start to 2023 As Well

2022 saw the tourism industry in Sri Lanka slowly but surely getting back on track as travel restrictions around the world were eased and more visitors returned to this popular holiday destination. As per the statistics from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, the country recorded 719,978 arrivals in 2022 which was a significant improvement from the previous year when the figure was under 195,000. December last year was capped off by 91,691 foreign visitors to the island with Russia and India being the top two source markets respectively.

This positive trend has been seen at the beginning of 2023 as well with Sri Lanka notching up 20,875 international arrivals just from 1st to 7th January. The country continues to attract travellers the world over, eager to enjoy the diverse experiences on offer. From beachside bliss at Weligama Bay hotels on the south coast such as Parangi Weligama Bay to cultural discoveries in Sigiriya, glamping amidst nature in Gal Oya and more there’s much to look forward to.
