Sri Lanka’s Tourist Arrivals Soar Past 700,000 in 14 Weeks – A Tropical Triumph!
Sri Lanka has surpassed 700,000 tourist arrivals in just the first 14 weeks of the year, nearly halving the time it took to achieve the same milestone in 2023. According to provisional data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, from January 1 to April 15, the island welcomed 718,315 international travellers.
In the first 15 days of April alone, 82,531 tourists arrived, demonstrating strong growth momentum. The daily arrival average improved to around 5,502, up from below 3,000 a year ago. Sri Lanka aims to achieve between 168,539 and 182,724 arrivals of tourists in April, which requires a daily average of foreign visitors between 5,617 and 6,090.
India remains the largest source of tourists, accounting for 17% of April’s arrivals, followed by the UK at 11%, and Russia at 10%. Germany, Australia, France, and China also contributed significantly. Many hotels in Colombo, such as the lavish Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, continue to offer an excellent base to explore the vibrant city and its surroundings.
