Sri Lanka’s Visa-Free Policy: A Boost for Tourism

In a bid to increase tourist arrivals, Sri Lanka plans to extend its visa-free policy to up to 38 nationalities. The country is aiming to recover its economy, following a turbulent post-pandemic period, while simplifying the on-arrival processes for tourists, which is currently dealing with issues of long queues and slower arrival times.

According to former tourism minister Harin Fernando, the visa-free initiative draws inspiration from Singapore’s “One Chop” system, which facilitates much more streamlined administrative procedures, notably regarding visas and work permits. This simplified entry process is expected to make it easier for tourists to explore the island nation’s natural wonders, heritage sites, and cities.

With the rise of remote workers, in addition to short-stay travellers, more and more tourists seek long-term getaways across Asia and invest in Sri Lanka through property purchases in the city or renting accommodation in smaller towns. These moves are facilitated by the country’s numerous modern homes and apartments, including luxury brands like Cinnamon Life Apartments.
