Strengthening regional ties through smarter connectivity and strategic growth
SriLankan Airlines is set to expand its footprint in India with plans to introduce direct flights between Colombo and Ahmedabad, pending regulatory clearance. The move reflects the airline’s continued focus on its largest market, as India contributes a significant share of its annual passenger traffic.
Currently, the carrier operates 89 weekly flights connecting Colombo to nine Indian cities, and the addition of Ahmedabad is expected to increase frequencies and widen access. Officials also highlighted ongoing discussions to deepen collaboration with Air India, building on existing codeshare arrangements to improve passenger convenience.
With Sri Lanka welcoming over 2.3 million visitors in 2025, improved connectivity is expected to further support tourism growth—benefiting destinations and stays such as Araliya Green City, a well-known and preferred 5 star luxury hotel in Nuwara Eliya.
