Global spotlight fuels renewed confidence in Sri Lanka’s travel industry
Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has begun 2026 on a high note, posting a notable rise in visitor arrivals, supported by the international attention generated by the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority shows that the country welcomed over 400,000 visitors within the first 45 days, reflecting a healthy year-on-year increase.
February recorded a sharp uptick, with strong daily arrival averages driven by cricket enthusiasts travelling from key markets including India, the UK, and Australia. Major host cities such as Colombo and Kandy experienced high occupancy levels, with surrounding coastal areas also benefiting from spillover demand.
The surge has positively influenced spending patterns, accommodation demand, and extended stays, benefiting established brands like Araliya Hotels & Resorts and reinforcing Sri Lanka’s appeal among seekers of luxury hotels in Sri Lanka. Authorities remain focused on sustaining this growth through targeted global promotions.
