Surge in Chinese Tourist Arrivals in Koh Samui – Visa-free Entry Also Comes into Effect

The island of Koh Samui in Thailand has seen a significant rise in arrivals from China this year, especially during the Chinese New Year period from 4th to 16th February 2024. In addition to this, direct flights from destinations in China like Chongqing and Chengdu also led to this increase with hotels and resorts enjoying more bookings, while the local economy welcomed a boost in revenue as well. China continues to be a key source market for tourism in Thailand and the country’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports has predicted that around 8 million Chinese visitors will arrive this year.

One of the major reasons for this expected influx is due to the mutual visa exemption agreement made between the two countries in January 2024 which came into effect from 1st March this year. Chinese citizens can now enjoy visa-free entry to Thailand which will no doubt help to propel arrivals. Travellers from China and other parts of the world continue to be drawn to enjoying holidays on a Koh Samui Island resort where they can experience coastal getaways; these include properties such as Avani+ Samui Resort where the best of this destination from beachside bliss to fun adventures and nightlife are on offer.
