Thailand is experiencing a surge in Indian tourists this year propelling the local tourism industry. This upswing comes on the heels of the Thai government’s decision to extend the visa-free entry period for Indian nationals until 11th November 2024, a significant extension from the initial 10th May expiry date. Another factor driving this boom in bookings for Thailand vacations is relatively stable airfare prices as well.
The Hindu BusinessLine reported in May 2024 that online travel platforms are witnessing a significant increase in interest in Thai vacations. Major travel platform, ixigo, for instance, observed a remarkable 90% jump in Thailand trip searches in May this year compared to May 2023. Industry experts attribute this surge directly to such visa exemption extensions and the resulting cost savings.
Eliminating visa fees, particularly for families and group travel, offers a substantial advantage for budget-conscious Indian travellers. This rise in demand has been seen for destinations such as Khao Lak which remains an ideal choice for those in search of a Phang Nga beach resort to enjoy a coastal getaway. Properties like Avani+ Khao Lak Resort are attracting travellers not just from India, but from other nations who are also enjoying such visa-free entry to Thailand.
