Thai National Elephant Day Next Month – In Honour of a Majestic Animal

Held in honour of the Asian elephant, the national animal of Thailand, the Thai National Elephant Day will be celebrated on 13 March 2019. This special day which takes place annually features a variety of ceremonies and activities in various parts of the country including the feeding of these majestic animals with a selection of cane and fruit.

As part of the celebration this year, the first ever Elephant Boat Race & River Festival will be held next month from 29th to 31st March. The festival will take place on the banks of the Chao Phraya River near Avani+ Riverside Bangkok Hotel. Easy to reach for those staying at such a hotel in Riverside, Bangkok the event will feature traditional dragon boat racing on boats with unique elephant designs and on-land activities for the whole family. While elephants are revered in Thailand, their numbers have been dwindling and such events are hoped to aid in creating awareness and raising much-needed funds for their conservation.
