Thai Tourism Income Boosted by Songkran – Water Festival Drives Revenue Surge

Thailand’s famed Songkran Festival has helped to elevate revenue for the local tourism industry, according to official data. The 21-day extended celebration this year, held from 1st to 21st April, saw a significant boost in both foreign visitor arrivals and overall income. Official figures reveal a 37.54% year-on-year increase in foreign tourists, with a total of 1.92 million international visitors flocking to Thailand to experience the water festival. This surge translated to increased revenue, with the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports reporting 3.78 billion U.S. dollars generated during the Songkran period.

The water-filled festivities, a cornerstone of the traditional New Year, continued to be a major draw, especially in destinations like the nation’s capital where tourists could enjoy stays at a serviced residence in Bangkok. This year’s amped-up celebrations, which were easy to experience for those staying at properties like Chatrium Residence Riverside Bangkok showcased the kingdom’s rich culture and heritage, garnering even more international attention. With this Songkran-fuelled boost, Thailand’s tourism industry remains on track to meet its target of welcoming 35 million visitors for the year.
