Thailand 32nd Happiest Country in the World – Climbing up one Position from 2016

Thailand seems to be living up to its nickname of ‘Land of Smiles’ after being ranked the 32nd happiest country in the world, according to a study released by the United Nations (UN) in honour of International Day of Happiness. The ranking is based around a combination of a country’s life expectancy, GDP per capita, social support, an individual’s trust in the government and business sector, personal freedom and generosity. Internationally celebrated for its friendly people, seemingly endless beach parties, and luxury Bangkok resorts, such as the Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort, for instance – Thailand’s government have set a 20-year national strategy which includes reforms to gain stability, and sustainability. The tourism industry, which accounts for 10 percent of its GDP, has also played a strong role in increasing the country’s economy.
