Thailand Announces Longer Visa Stays – Efforts to Boost Tourism Economy

Thailand has expanded its visa exemption policy to include nationals from 93 countries and territories, up from the previous 57. Visitors under this scheme can stay in Thailand for up to 60 days for tourism or short-term business purposes, with the option to extend their stay by an additional 30 days at the Immigration Office. This gives opportunities for the tourism sector and other related industries, such as Phuket restaurants of the likes of Age Restaurant Phuket, to experience high business numbers.

In addition to expanding visa exemptions, Thailand has introduced new visa measures, including the Visa on Arrival (VOA), Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), and an extended Student Visa (Non-Immigrant ED Plus). The VOA now covers 31 countries, allowing a 15-day stay for tourists. The DTV is designed for remote workers, digital nomads, and participants in cultural and professional activities, offering a five-year stay with multiple entries.
