Thailand Announces Visa-Free Welcome for Russian Travellers to 90 Days

In a bid to attract more travellers amid challenging geopolitical circumstances, Thailand announces an extension of visa-free visits for Russian tourists. Commencing on November 1, 2023, this new policy allows Russian visitors to stay in the country for up to 90 days without the need for a visa. The decision comes as Russian tourists face limited travel options due to various factors, including Moscow’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict, the impact of travel restrictions, sanctions, and the depreciation of the ruble.

The announcement of the visa extension, from the previous 30 days to 90 days, was made just before a meeting between Srettha Thavisin, Thailand’s Prime Minister, and Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing last week. With nearly one million Russian tourists having already visited Thailand this year, tourism officials anticipate that the extended visa-free status will further attract visitors, particularly during the peak season from November to March.

As a result of this initiative, more travellers from Russia can look forward to comfortable stays at excellent accommodation options in Thailand, including the Avani+ Koh Lanta Krabi Resort, a luxurious and elegantly designed Koh Lanta beach resort.
