The Thai New Year celebrations were carried out on a grand scale in several cities from the 13th to the 15th of April. Commonly known as the Songkran Festival, the celebrations included the famous water fights, visiting the temples, and cleansing their minds. Although some cities such as Bangkok and islands like Koh Phangan focused on water fights and street performances more, other parts of Thailand have given priority to spirituality and rituals. Many Thais were engaged in cleaning Buddha statues and temple premises as per the traditions.
Many tourists were seen travelling to Koh Phangan this year to experience the exciting water fights and street performances. Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas was a popular Koh Phangan resort many guests chose as their accommodation during their visit to the island.
