Songkran, Thailand’s vibrant New Year festival, is renowned for its water fights, cultural processions, and joyful atmosphere. This year, the festivities have been taken to a whole new level with the introduction of the “World Songkran Festival” – a nationwide celebration spanning from 1st to 21st April 2024. Traditionally observed from the 13th to the 15th of April, Songkran signifies a time for renewal and blessings. Devotees pay respect at temples, pouring scented water onto sacred Buddha images and the hands of their elders for good fortune.
However, the festival’s heart lies in the playful water fights. Armed with water guns and buckets, Thais and tourists alike drench each other in a joyous display of merriment. Bangkok’s vibrant streets transform into a massive water battleground, with laughter and excitement filling the air. However, the celebrations extend far beyond the capital city to Thai islands like Phuket. Luxury resorts here by the beach such as Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas remain an ideal place to experience the festive spirit of Songkran and other events throughout the year.
